Teresa is a wife, mother, and passionate caretaker. She enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse, beginning in Labor & Delivery and ending with Hospice care. 

 

45 years ago Teresa delighted in assisting mothers as they brought new life into the world in Labor & Delivery. Then she worked with bone marrow transplant patients, spent many years in the Operating Room, and even worked as a substitute school nurse while her daughter was in school. 

 

During that time Teresa’s younger sister was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. One year later her oldest sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Within the next several years, Teresa lost both sisters and both of her parents. She even had the honor and privilege of caring for her mother at home. Both her sisters and her mother were in the care of Hospice at the time of their deaths. 

 

It was then that Teresa realized that God was calling her to work with the dying. She began working in an Inpatient Hospice Care unit where she came to know every facet of the dying process. Her previous focus as a nurse had always been curative, but in Hospice that focus transferred to comfort, care, and compassion during the patient’s final moments. Her coworkers would often find her in a room praying with a patient and their family or teaching the family what to expect and what to look for as the dying progressed. It came naturally for her to notice and point out the spiritual transitioning from this life into eternity so that the family would not miss this sacred event. 

 

After retirement Teresa felt that God and her passion for the end of life process were leading her to continue her work with the dying. That is why she founded Soul Arise End-of-Life Doula and is looking forward to the great honor of working with you. Teresa provides end of life services in both Findlay, OH and Sarasota, FL.
